CICan Delegation at Queenstown Business Campus of Ikhala TVET College. Ikhala TVET College hosted a delegation from Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) on its Queenstown Business Campus, strengthening its commitment to advancing digital education. During the visit, Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) collaborated on the South Africa Skills Training Enhancement Program (SASTEP). In this strategic engagement, we explored how online and blended learning can expand access to quality education.
Advancing Digital Learning for a Brighter Future
Students were equipped with essential skills for the modern workforce during the visit by leveraging technology to bridge learning gaps. Participants shared valuable insights on institutional priorities and the role of digital education in fostering student success.
According to Jacqueline Towell from Durham College, Canada, SASTEP is about “bringing people together.” Echoing this sentiment, Mr. Luyando Oliphant, Head of Academics at Ikhala TVET College, highlighted the importance of digital education, saying, “We should seize the opportunity for online training.”.”
Stakeholder Perspectives on Digital Education
A Business Studies lecturer at Ikhala TVET College, Mr. Mgcini Ndlovu, described SASTEP as “the partnership we’ve been waiting for.” As well, Ana Belen Jimenez, a representative of CICan, reaffirmed the program’s long-term value, stating, “Training in online and blended learning ensures sustainability and impact.”.”
Principal Tembelihle Ntlangano found the discussions inspiring and cited UNISA as a successful model for online learning. He expressed confidence that similar advancements could be made in TVET.
The Queenstown Business Campus Manager, Muller du Preez, also highlighted the college preparedness, saying, “Our campus has seven computer labs with state-of-the-art electronics that are not affected by load shedding.” The timing of this program is ideal.”

South Africa’s post-school education and training system will be enhanced through CICan visit. Collaboration contributes to key objectives, including:
